How Far from Here to the Horizon

My eyes lift, gazing at the line. Heaven meets earth way out over sparkling water. The horizon is always distant. I cannot reach the place where sky meets land.

“As far as this point you shall come, but no farther; and here your proud waves shall stop” (Job 38:11, NASB).

You, who separated the heavens, the water, and the earth, have a purpose for my life right here, right now.

My feet touch this spot. I stand, waiting. My heart beats in these passing seconds. Nothing You, O LORD, have made is random. Everything you do is GOOD.

“You hem me in–behind and before; You have laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to obtain” (Psalm 139:5,6, NIV).

Who are we that You care for us? What is our worth that You gave Your precious Son?

“…and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, that they would seek God, if perhaps they might feel around for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and exist…” (Acts 17:26-28, NASB).

As high as the heavens are above my head, Your love goes further still.

The horizon explodes, both brilliant and gentle. Oranges, purples, and pinks flood my eyes here on this, A small space of ground.

“Where is the way to the dwelling of light? And darkness, where is its place, that you would take it to its territory, and discern the paths to its home?” (Job 38:19-20, NASB)

Though I will never understand all of Your ways, I trust, O LORD, that Your heart is true.

In your wonderful power, You care for the least of these.

You also care for me.
