Hopeful Journey

“Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up”(Deuteronomy 6:5-7, NIV).

Journey

At the start of our homeschool journey, I was quite overwhelmed. How could I teach these four wild and wonderful little people? The youngest, Kellen, wasn’t even born yet, and I felt the approaching due date with great urgency. I started Kindergarten early.

How could I NOT teach these wild and wonderful little people? Teaching was my identity. These four were my gifts. How better could I love God with all my strength? We embarked on our journey with hopeful fear.

Those early days of our journey were serious play! Each day, I shared a letter sound combined with an animal and a Bible idea: A. Consider the ant (Proverbs 6:6). Five-year-old Emme learned her letters. Three-year-old Liam joined the adventure. One and a half year old Declan mostly tore the downstairs apart, scattering toys and kitchen tools through every square foot until nap time, my welcome reprieve, arrived. Once baby Kellen joined the scene, we kept our momentum going.

Would you like to learn about our homeschool journey? This is my 5-minute Friday prompt, and my time is up! If our adventures interest you, drop a note in the comments. It was a wild ride, but worth every challenge! Homeschooling our children is one of the most difficult and meaningful assignments we can accept. I am here to encourage and equip others in the middle of their journeys.

  1. Homeschooling my four children was one of the most wild and wonderful journeys I’ve ever been on and I wouldn’t change a bit of it! I believe it was a blessing for each of the kids as well. Good for you! May God bless your family throughout your homeschooling adventure! Visiting from FMF#10

  2. I Homeschooled my kiddos as well. I started when my daughter entered fourth grade and my son entered 1st. While it wasn’t always easy, it was worth it. Thanks for sharing.

  3. I take my hat off to you home-schoolers! Having been a full time primary school teacher for many years, I noticed how much harder it was to teach ‘lessons’ to my own than to someone else’s. I don’t know how you do it!
