Lonely

“We all come and go alone…” Joni Mitchell

“But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.”

Luke 5:16

Sometimes I feel lonely in a crowd. Conversations of shopping deals, essential oils and trivial things bring a weariness behind my eyeballs,

and I long to find a quiet space.

Sometimes, all alone, I walk past trees filled with birds calling out “Good morning.” I feel peace settle in my heart, remembering

I never walk alone.

Sometimes my loneliness draws me to set down words

and send them out. And sometimes those words find another heart,

lonely like mine. When those words connect me to my reader who says, “You too? I thought I was the only one,”

then I feel

the value of

aloneness.

Sometimes Jesus spent time alone.

I guess maybe it is good to be alone.

Maybe it sends the loneliness away when I take the time

to listen to the Spirit in those lonely places.

Then He sends me back

to share.

We are not meant

to do life

alone.

Let the lonely places bring you peace.

Let your lonely place reflections lead to connection.

Let the lonely find friends to fill the empty longing.

Let us hear Emmanuel’s small, still voice in the

lonely places of life.

  1. It takes courage to go into that lonely place sometimes, but I agree that we find solace there. Thank you for your thoughtful post. I am your neighbour at #6 on Five Minute Friday.

  2. This is beautiful! I, too, find that going out alone in nature, reminds me I’m not alone. God is always with me, and that is a comforting thought. Blessings to you! I’m your neighbor at #FiveMinuteFriday.
