God does not reverse roles with us!

Reverse

“If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is Mine, and all that is in it” (Psalm 50:12).

(Each week I receive a challenge to write for 5 minutes on a single word. Today, that word is REVERSE.)

Sometimes it can be refreshing to reverse roles. When my teens and young adults teach me about karate or help me with tech challenges I am filled with gratitude and admiration.

Sometimes it is difficult but needed to reverse roles. When my dear mama needed to be placed in memory care for Alzheimer’s needs, I had to assume the role of responsibility, though she had always cared for me.

Sometimes reversal of roles is uncomfortable. When my husband has surgery, I become driver. I miss my usual place in the passenger seat.

With the Lord, we never need to reverse roles. He is always the One with the resources and wisdom. In Psalm 50, he chastises his people for thinking Him needy in any way. He tells us that “the cattle on a thousand hills” are His.

“…and call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor Me” (Psalm 50:15)

I’m thankful that in a life of shifting roles, there is one constant. We can always come to God with our needs. He welcomes our prayers and fills us with good things.

Let my only reversal with God be turning His help into songs of joy.

He needs nothing I have to offer and yet He delights in our praise.

Let me give Him an offering of thanksgiving.

Let our worship be a sweet and fragrant offering to God,

Lord of all the earth.

  1. Amen! Yes, it took me a long time to realize it was okay to be in the reverse role situation. Tech questions, check! Driving lessons, check! and now questions about diet and learning about building! So much more to learn from my children … FMF#5
