Speaking Clay

“Poems are made by fools like me,

But only God can make a tree.”

Joyce Kilmer

Why do I write? I hope to create something beautiful to encourage another heart. When I try, on my own, to make something of value, I come up short.

“What shall I give to the Potter,

When none that I have is my own?

Your hands have fashioned me

In intricate unity, muscle and sinew and bone.”

Jeff Gibson

A few years back, before our children, before the muchness and manyness of life, my husband wrote a song. As a young man, he recognized  that all he had was from God, His MAKEr. How could he create anything worthy enough for God?

Now, we have sons and a daughter who also pen beautiful words. These are gifts more wonderful than my mind can fathom. Maybe these fearfully and wonderfully made ones are the closest we have to a worthy gift for our king.

Yet, they too are made by Him, not us.

Words are formed by fools like us,

But only God can breathe life into our creative projects.

He makes beauty from our simple endeavors.

I thank Him that we are fearfully and wonderfully made.

Move in our lives

Accept our simple gifts

Keep our eyes fixed on Jesus

Everlasting God, make

He makes truly valuable things.
What can the clay create?

beauty from these clay vessels.
