Good Vibes

“Vibes are the good or bad atmosphere that you sense with a person or in a place.” (collinsdictionary.com)

“Be a thermostat, not a thermometer.”

(Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.)

I want to be the thermastat, not the thermometer. This, however, is more easily said than done!

Being an introvert makes me sensitive to the vibes in a person or place. I’m easily uncomfortable when I walk into spaces and feel heaviness or judgment. My discomfort makes me anxious, not my best self at all.

“A constant dripping on a day of steady rain and a contentious woman are alike”(Proverbs 27:15, NASB).

I read in Proverbs about the contentious woman. Yikes! I don’t want to be her at all. If I’m honest, however, my bad mood rubs off on others. I can’t afford to leave it unchecked.

“…your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit is of great worth in God’s sight” (1 Peter 3:4, NIV).

How I want to be the woman sharing “good vibrations’ with others.

“Gotta keep these lovin’ good vibrations a happenin’.’”

(Brian Wilson)

When someone comes into my presence, I want them to have peace. How does a naturally reactive woman become the one who changes the atmosphere?

Jesus is the One who makes all things new.

  • If I spend time with Him, I learn to spread Christ’s aroma. “Thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of Him” (2 Corinthians 2:14, NIV).
  • If I bring to Him my worries and weights, He exchanges them for joy.
  • If I admit to Him that I don’t know how to be the ‘good vibrations’ woman, His strength can come into my weakness. Jesus is more than enough!
  • In Christ, I can learn to be a difference maker. He turns my darkness into light. He is the changer of my atmosphere.

  1. A thought provoking and encouraging post! I had to think about the difference between a thermostat and a thermometer, and I agree. We need Jesus to assist us in being a thermostat.
