You can keep it brief!
This month, I helped my teen writers draft essays that set goals for the new school year. I shared a few things I have learned about goal-setting success.
One Michigan State study compared goal success between two groups. Those with goals in mind had a 43% success rate, but those who wrote their plans down increased their success to 76%! Based on current research, I recommended these three things to my students:
1. Write down your goals.
2. Break them into measurable steps.
3. Find an accountability partner and commit to regular updates.
I’m excited to read about my students’ goals. I hope they will enjoy growing this year. A few even partnered up with a classmate!
Yesterday, I wrote about a few writer friends who have made a big difference to me. I successfully published my first book because I committed to those three steps, and they came alongside me. You can find it here:

Let me add one more most important factor in goal planning: don’t forget to pray! Pray when you start. Pray every step of the way. Pray for your accountability buddy. Pray about changing timelines. We think we know our plans, but God directs our paths.
I thank God for giving us dreams and tools to bring them to fruition. Father, please align our goals with Your perfect will. Your ways are so good!
What goal would you like to write down?
