Remnant

“I Myself will gather the remnant of My flock out of all the countries where I have driven them and will bring them back to their pasture where they will be fruitful and increase in number” (Jeremiah 23:3).

“I will bring them back to this place and let them live in safety. They will be My people, and I will be their God. I will give them singleness of heart and action, so that they will always fear Me for their own good and the good of their children after them. I will make an everlasting covenant with them: I will never stop doing good to them, and I will inspire them to fear Me, so that they will never turn away from Me. I will rejoice in doing them good and will assuredly plant them in this land with all My heart and soul” (Jeremiah 32:37-41).

My little quilt is precious.

Anna 1973

is embroidered on one corner. Each little square is a remnant of love.

When we were small, Mom sewed dresses for special occasions. In my photos, Paula and I stand hand-in-hand, smiling at the camera in sweet, simple holiday clothes. I trace each square on my quilt and find the matching picture. Those little leftover pieces of fabric still had a purpose for Mom. She lovingly stitched them together into a warm, special collage, a memento of younger years.

Did you know there is a remnant in the Bible? When Israel disobeyed God, His promised judgment caused hardship. The nation suffered drought and invaders until they remembered to honor God. In every generation, even the disobedient ones, some people held tightly to faith. Though they suffered with their countrymen, they simultaneously lived in God’s blessing. He has ways of giving joy and comfort, even in the hardest times. He wastes nothing!

If you look around and are dismayed, take your cares to God. Though the world around seems mad, He sees your simple faith. Hold tightly to what you know is right. He will shepherd you, His remnant, in His love.

Jesus will be “right back!” When He returns, He will gather beautiful hearts from near and far. Worshippers will sing, “For You alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before You, for Your righteous acts have been revealed” (Revelation 15:4).

You are not a leftover to be scrapped by the worldly wise. God is planning to create beauty out of ashes. Together, we will be His Bride. For now, never doubt: He sees you and values your steadfast faith. Wear the role of remnant with confidence. He finds you lovely!
