“Cast your cares on the LORD, and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous fall” (Psalm 55:22, NIV).
“The Sovereign LORD has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught”(Isaiah 50:4, NIV).
“My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work” (John 4:34, NIV).
When I have a big day ahead, I deliberately plan for strength. A good night’s sleep, a breakfast with protein, fruit, and whole grain, and a nice cup of coffee sustain and prepare me for anything.
There is another sort of sustenance we need even more. How can we last through life’s discouragements, struggles, and sadness? How do we hold onto faith without growing weary?

The longer I live, the more important time with God becomes. Waking early, I seek His guidance in the pages of scripture and my journal. Maybe sleeping in would be nice, but the quiet time sustains me. Whatever may come, I’m ready…if time with God comes first.
“Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He, I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you, and I will rescue you” (Isaiah 46:4, NIV).
Where are we fixing our eyes? If we focus on Jesus, He will help us along. When His friends came with lunch, Jesus wasn’t hungry. He found more sustenance by reaching others with His Father’s mercy.
If we keep following Jesus, our Shepherd and King, how long will He sustain us? As long as it takes! He will bring us all the way home.
How will you make time for a healthy serving of sustenance from our God today?
good reminder of God’s sustaining care for us. thanks.
Time with God can indeed sustain me through even the worst of days.
