“And the pizza guy, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts…” What??
One of my favorite homeschool subjects was Bible. I loved sharing God’s Word with my kids and felt tremendous freedom to do this creatively. Every year, I prayed and asked what our Bible time should look like. Here are a few things we did that I fondly remember:

- We often studied the same part of the Bible our church was teaching through. This way, they could tell me what they did in Sunday School, and I could help their understanding align with our family’s values.
- We enjoyed learning Bible verses to music. One resource I loved was seedskidworship.com, a collection of fun music that focused on different aspects of the Bible like hope, power, and trust. My kids sometimes got very silly, singing about the pizza guy instead of the peace of God, but God’s word was being planted in their hearts.
- Composition book Bible journals were an integral part of our Bible time. We took a few minutes, and each reflected on our Bible passage. I did this too. One simple formula was to record: •What it says, •What it means, and •What this means in my life. After writing, we shared. This activity bridges ages. A younger, simpler response from a young sibling is appropriate. A longer, more thoughtful response from an older child or parent brings new insight. The bonus is the keepsake these notebooks become. Years later, you will open these books and remember their sweet faith!
- Prayer is a wonderful part of Bible time. One organization I enjoyed connecting with is The Voice of the Martyrs. Every Friday, they email a prayer request from three parts of the world. We each took one of those places and prayed together.
I hope you find meaningful ways to connect the Bible to your homeschool day. We have an amazing opportunity and responsibility as homeschool parents. Do you have a good idea? Share it here in the comments.
“These commandments I give to you are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up” (Deuteronomy 6:6-7, NIV).
