Don’t Be LAZY?

“To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams” (1 Samuel 15:22, NIV).

Lately, I have noticed a pattern in myself. I only feel content when I get things done. LORD, please help me remember Your love is free, not earned. Please let me do all things without striving, in love. It is not lazy to rest. It shows that my hope is in You.

At rest, I forget to fret. I trust God to care for us. Time and quiet helps me hear God’s small, still voice. Please give me the space and the awareness I lack. Show me that trusting and obeying is where peace is found. You achieve more in my rest than I do in my busyness.

Zeal is not the same as strife. I can joyfully and excitedly serving God in His timing, His strength. LORD, help me keep fresh enthusiasm. Your ways are perfect for me. When I rest, fresh energy returns.

Yielding feels awkward, but soon I relax. To be “lazy” on a sunny, spring day may be exactly what I need. LORD, help me rest in You and accept Your perfect gifts. There is a time and season for it all. I rest in You today.

Can you relate to my struggle? Lord, please give us balance. “Let us make every effort to enter that rest…” (Hebrews 4:11, NIV).
