Shine On!

Shine On

By Jeff Gibson

A cloud covers the land, like a heavy hand

Eyes cast upon the ground

Now more than ever before, we must be sure

To shout out, shout out and make a joyful sound!

Shine on, shine on, only love can see you through,

Shine on, shine on, transformed to His likeness,

His Spirit will flow out from you.

Nations crying in need, in despair, deceived,

No man can make it on his own,

So faithful, answer the call, and spread the word to all.

And don’t forget we never, never walk alone!

In the city of twelve strong gates, Yeshua sits in victory,

At His table, a feast awaits the chosen saints of history!

I believe, I believe, I believe!

Please help me to Persevere Today:

Some days it feels like a dark cloud covers my home. Let me explain. My very favorite person, my husband, is suffering under way too many physical ailments for me to write about in five minutes. It just keeps on getting worse! My kids, all four young adults, each struggle to hold onto hope in our challenging time of history. I want so badly to love my people and give them strength. My insufficiency weighs me down.

I read in my Bible about the glory of the Lord. It was so thick it filled the temple. He lives in us today. I don’t feel like I’m glorifying Him much with the challenges of my day. I feel like I’m floundering. I want to be the one to shine on, but I don’t know how.

Then I remember a song Jeff wrote when he was the age of my kids. Shine on! I remember that it is love that sees us through the heavy times. I ask Jesus, this one more time called Today, to give me the strength to love my people. Today, I will shine on…not in my strength but His. Perseverance isn’t something I can eek out, it completely depends on the One who promises to go before me.

“Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us” (Romans 5:5-5).

  1. You are not alone. Preserving through challenges can’t produce such suffering and anguish. It also gives us joy that we can share with others thereby strengtheng the giver as well as the receiver. Blessings.

      1. Thanks for your encouragement, Annie! No worry about the typos. I understand. It always gives me strength to remember that God is using our struggles to help others in theirs.

        1. May God undergird you and help you persevere through this difficult season. PS I’m sure that you are loving the people around you more than you know. ❤️ G

  2. I like the line in your husband’s song: “No man can make it on his own.” We all need the Lord to endure the struggle.

    Praying healing for your family.
