Your Face

Jesus,

If I finally saw Your face,

Would I know how to be brave? Would your eyes of love compel me to do hard things, to say true words?

If I finally saw Your face,

Would your tears teach me of Your love? Would proof of Your compassion make my pain more bearable? Would I hold on for You?

If I finally saw Your face,

Would I recognize Your likeness in theirs? In my children, in the stranger, in my enemy? Would I do better at loving them?

If I finally saw Your face,

Would I believe I am beloved? Would your smile tell my heart what Your word already does, that I am Yours?

If these light and temporary troubles did not weigh me down with care, would I long less for that wonderful day when

Finally, I see Your face?
