Where your treasure is, there your heart will also be.
Matthew 6:21
In my recurring nightmare, I am moving. Time is running out. The building I’m leaving is huge, with many rooms full of stuff. Cleaning and painting still need to happen…somehow. The landlord will be here anytime!

Moving was simple in my early days. I could fit everything in the back of my Honda Civic. Once, I actually threw away a lampshade because it just didn’t fit. I was okay with that!
Moving with my four children was another experience! How had we accumulated so many things? Why did we need it all? I remember the overwhelmed feeling: boxes, cleaning, sorting…so much stuff!
What do we accumulate that is of true value?
I accumulate memories of God’s faithfulness and love shared with people.
I accumulate friends to do life with and to look towards Heaven with.
I accumulate understanding of how this life with its light and momentary troubles leads to an eternal weight of glory that will make it all worthwhile.
As we move through this life, transitions need not be nightmares. Let’s use our “moving days” to sort out our treasure. Let’s be deliberate. Accumulate only what’s worth carrying on our journey.
For where our treasure is, there our hearts will be also.
Love what you’re accumulating. 😍 G
Moving is definitely an excellent opportunity to consider what we’ve accumulated and to make intentional decisions about what to keep.
I fight the nausea and pain,
and fight the black despair,
returning to what does remain,
to dreams that are still there.
The wood is still straight, strong and true,
the lines are as they’re meant to be,
and I know just what I must do
to honour a much younger me,
and in the night I labour on,
bent double, yes, at times,
but the chance in not yet gone,
and maybe my designs
to build this real-life aeroplane
can help me keep my heart the same.
I like your list of things you are accumulating. Those really are the things worth carrying with us.
where our treasure is there will our heart also be is a good reminder to most of us. Thank you
