You Can Pick…

“You get what you get, and you don’t pitch a fit!” -origin unknown

O LORD, why do we keep getting more bad health news about Jeff? Haven’t we had enough? If I could pick, I’d say give him a break! Being a caregiver is a peculiar sort of suffering. It often feels helpless. I can’t do much to alleviate Jeff’s pain. I pray, and pray, but his afflictions increase.

We could grow bitter. What good would that do? For ten years now, we have declared our trust in God, EVEN IF total healing does not come. Ten years is a mighty long time! How can we stop trusting now?

We could become envious. Why do other people seem to have it easier? No, I want to trust You more than that! You, God, know what we need to grow and know You more fully.

Do I believe that if I could see things like God does, I would pick these same exact circumstances, the ones He has ordained for our lives? Not perfectly, but I hope that He will continue growing my faith to trust Him like that.

Maybe these very afflictions God picks for our lives develop our capacity to trust Him and walk in faith.

LORD, thank You for choosing us. We are Yours.

Thank You for picking our blessings and our troubles.

You really do know best.

Thank You for teaching

a slow learner like me

to trust You, whatever

Life brings.

You are faithful!
